There was a throw away line about Patricia Highsmith in last weeks movie (Perfect Days) and it prompted me to revisit one of my favourite book adaptations, Two Faces of January. Fortunately it’s on SBS (adverts though, which is unfortunate) and I enjoyed it just as much as when it first came out. The three leads are all exceptional and the cinematography is on point. Every department is operating at the highest level to help create this classic noir, which has obvious parallels to the Ripley stories but who cares. I would love to see Hossein Amini direct more but for now, this is all we’ve got.

Bonus: This movie has one of the best fly on the wall ‘making of’ videos on Vimeo here > making of two faces
