Free to Air 25th September
Second time in the free to air space for Lynne Ramsay, (free to air 23rd May), one of the most distinctive voices making films today and one we badly need.
You Were Never Really Here is (for me) a story about morals and a story about judgment (both the self and others), punctuated by moments of violence. There’s an element of dark humour here too. It’s protagonist, Joe, and the situation he finds himself in is almost biblical. What conduct is justifiable, what responsibilities should he carry and ultimately, to what end?
It’s a tight 90 minutes packed with great performances, great dialogue and a great soundtrack from Jonny Greenwood. I appreciate the realism in the cinematography from Thomas Townend too, that’s harder to pull off than you think.
